Family Travel and Leisure Information
How important are travel and leisure activities to your family's health
and longevity. Is the number of vacation days you take per year related to
how long you live?
Recently, my thoughts about vacation, travel and leisure by Americans led
me to wonder how people's longevity may relate to their vacation time.
Family travel and relaxation are important, especially in the more
industrialized countries. They have better transportation systems, and
maybe, more resources to go around.
Since the economic resources vary widely from country to country, I
decided to compare the amount of vacation time and longevity of the G7
countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and
the United States.

Italians seem to make more use of travel and leisure - well, maybe the
leisure part of the combination. Italians have 43 vacation days per year
compared to Americans with only 13 per year!
What is also interesting is that this number is almost half that of the
2nd lowest - Japan, with 25 days. So how do the life expectancy of these
major countries compare?

No surprise. People in the US work more than their counterparts in the G7
nations, but have shorter life spans - despite more medical gadgets,
longevity potions, and drugs.
The figures used for these graphical representations are from the 2005
World Almanac.
So as you look at these statistics, how do the number of vacation days,
travel and leisure activities you take each year affect you? Although it
would take a scientific study to concretize my suspicion, the figures
speak.
You can work hard all year and win the technological and productivity
games, but wouldn't you rather win the game of life? |
