When Your Mountain Climbing Gear Really Matters
When does your mountain climbing gear really
matter? Ask the survivors of a snow storm, or someone who has gone
for the climb often. You'll know how important your gear is.
It is important to carry the right and the
necessary mountain climbing gear at all times. It doesn't matter which
mountain, it doesn't matter whether your are a beginner or a professional
mountain climber.
Of course, there will be differences in clothing
depending on the season and the location. If you are in the tropics warm
clothing may not be as important as when you are in very cool climates.
Consideration must also be given for the certain
differences between day and night temperatures, as well.
Do you need long sleeve or short sleeve shirts?
Should you have clothes that will not get snagged in bushes? Will you
require thermal pants, vests, gloves, scarfs, and boots with heavy
insulation for cold terrain?
Do Weather Conditions Determine the Kind of Stuff You Carry? Then Get the Stuff That
Changes the Conditions
The weather, slope, terrain, and distance are
just some of the factors that determine the king of stuff you take along.
You need to keep dry - but clothes for rainy weather may make undesirable
gear in dry weather.
The weight you carry should be carefully
'calculated'. You don't want to take more than you will need, and you
can't afford to carry less than you need, either.

The Suunto Observer SR is a computer watch
with altimeter, compass, and more. |
What about your time-navigation gadgets? Any set
of mountain climbing gear should include a compass, a watch, and maybe a
gps device.
Nowadays, it is easy to get multi-function
gadgets. The Suunto Observer SR is an example of a multifunction adventure
gear that is worth having. You can look at some
Suunto Watches
at my favorite store.
May I just add that my very favorite authority on
mountain climbing gear
and all things outdoors is REI.
There are many options packed into their gadgets.
All in all, you reduce the number of different gadgets you have to take on
your climb.
Your most important mountain climbing gear is
really what you wear. Shoes should support the feet well, providing
warmth, waterproofness, good climbing performance, and great fit.
Helmets should be light, yet providing protection
against potential injury in case of a fall. You can be assured that a
helmet is suitable if it meets International Mountaineering and Climbing
Federation (UIAA) standard.
Your mountain climbing gear or rock climbing
equipment really matters when they are able to protect you from the
elements, from the rigors of climbing, and from the uneventful mishaps.
The kind of gadgets and gear you wear really
matters then - when they are able to "come through for you".
