Kids Summer Camps - Why You Should tag Along
Many parents find
kids summer camps a great idea but
for different reasons. These reasons certainly don't include parents being
kids again.
It's usually an occasion to get rid of the kids
for a while... to get some free time. This may not be all that bad, but I
have a better idea.
Parents can go on kids summer camps too. Even if
you dislike the outdoors, find some way to lend your presence even for a
day. It will change your child's life.
-
Volunteer to help teach camping skills or any
camping activity that the sponsors may be putting on.
-
Be a chaperone or caretaker for a day. The many
activities that have to be planned to keep kids busy require a lot of
adult supervision.
-
Help in the kitchen - be assistant chef, or
assist with the serving or cleanup.
-
Be an audience or a fan at any sport activity
organized during the camping trip.
Organizers may specifically not want parents to
be at some kids summer camps. These may be rare situations. However,
parents, church or community groups can organize their own summer camps.
We do that with our kids every year and the kids
love it tremendously. Recently, the physical activities seem to be geared
to remind me of my age, but I don't mind.
Now, I mostly assume the role of camera
photographer. It is really fun to be in on kids summer camp activities. We
go canoeing, we play tug-o-war, we hike through the woods, sing around
camp fires...
These are great and memorable moments for
children. These memories will live with them forever. And just in case you
think of asking, "what's in a kids summer camp for me?" The answer is, it
keeps you young.
