Hiking Vacation
A hiking vacation is a rewarding experience. It
can satisfy a fitness enthusiast's need for a workout, a naturist's quest
to be in sync with nature, and a stressed-out worker's need for relaxation -
all in the same event.

Hiking Vacation trail - Here, a youth group takes
off on a 3 mile hike from their camping station in the North Georgia
mountains. |
Although I prefer to hike up a mountain (mountain
climbing), I have hiked fairly level trails as well.
One memorable one was in the Bahamas. How we
enjoyed the coconut juice (water) residents showered on us!
The whole family can go on a hiking vacation.
There are difficult trails and easy trails. Some hiking trips can be done
in portions. This allows children and older folk to rest and get used to
changing elevation and pressure conditions.
One neat option for a hiking vacation is to
combine multiple activities. It's amazing how many activities you can get
into one weekend, depending on the destination you choose. Hiking is one
of my favorite ways to raise my level of relaxation.
Organize a hiking vacation to include a bit of
kayaking,
rafting,
bird watching,
sailing,
horseback riding, or
simple walking. Combine as many of
the activities as you can find.
My Hiking Vacation Experience on Jamaica's Blue Mountain
It was just for a weekend getaway. I still
remember the beckoning whispers of streams and the rustle of tropical
vegetation as we climbed.
We were hiking with a youth group. It was a
guided trip. It's nice to know you don't have to worry about getting lost.
[Many hiking destinations all over the world do have designated trails.
It's best to stick to the known path.]
Take your time on your hiking vacation. You don't want to miss out on
the scenery. In fact, if you are hiking to the peak of Jamaica's Blue
Mountain, spend the night at Blue Mountain’s Wildflower Lodge. This is
4500 feet above sea level - more than half way up to the 7402-foot peak.
Enjoy the pampering island welcome and the world class Jamaican
cuisine. You'll be ready to take on the rest of the hike when the next
day.
We timed the journey so that we reached the peak before dawn. That way
we were able to watch the sunrise. If you've never seen the birth of a day
from the top of a mountain, you're missing one of the brightest events in
life!
It was heavenly. Now I tell all my friends they've got to have at least
one hiking vacation in their lifetime. And I mean climbing a mountain.
If you are new to this adventurous pastime, don't just run off without
proper planning. You may spoil the fun by creating a regrettable
experience. Maybe the best resource with valuable
hiking vacation
information is Eric Olsen's site. Eric shares his great wealth of
experience on his website.
