Cheap Used Boat Trailers
Some people would advise you to
avoid cheap used boat trailers. Reasoning goes along the lines of
sellers usually wanting to get rid of old hardware.
Well, isn't it the same for used cars, trucks,
and a countless other things? Like in all those cases, if you get a used
trailer to tow your good boat, make sure it won't fall off along the road.
There is always a need for caution, though. Even
when these things are not painted over, you can't see the
micro-flaws in the material. Buyer beware! No one can tell what could
happen due to the vibrations during normal use.
Don't just fall in love with color, build, and
insignificant features. If your need for this thing is greater than the
other guy's desire to part with his stuff, chances are you may get it.
Used boat trailers are like used truck trailers. You can find pre-owned
boat trailers at boat salvage auctions.
You know how it is with auctions, you get what you bid for. If you
don't want to pay the high price for a new boat trailer, then a used one
from an auction may be fine.
Make sure you can quickly assess the service life
that can be reasonably
expected from a cheap used boat trailer. Don't buy a lemon.
The boat trailers I've seen at
West Marine Auction are cheap but those strong aluminum frames won't
leave your valuable watercraft on the road.
